@MizzouBaseball’s Zach Lavy Named Olson Award Semifinalist

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Mizzou senior 1B Zach Lavy (Auxvasse, Mo.) has been named a semifinalist for the 2016 Gregg Olson Award, which is given to the top amateur baseball player who elevates his game to an elite level throughout the season. He is one of 42 players to be named a semifinalist for the award, six from the SEC.
Lavy entered the season as a career .229 hitter with just 17 total extra-base hits in his first two seasons. As a senior, Lavy has exploded to lead Mizzou in virtually every offensive category while leading the SEC in extra-base hits (34), slugging (.629) and triples (eight) while ranking second in doubles (18) and third in total bases (127). His eight triples lead the nation and are the most at Mizzou since 1994 and his 18 doubles are the most at Mizzou since 2010 as are his 54 RBI. Nearly half of his team-leading 69 hits have gone for extra bases this season.
The Olson Award has been developed to honor college baseball's success stories and showcase players like Olson who have raised the level of their game through hard work, strength of mind and determination. Eligible players will be those who are omitted from major publication's preseason All-American prognostications; however by the end of the season their on the field performance will demonstrate that they are among the top amateur baseball players in the nation.
Finalists will be announced during Super Regional action. The winner of the 2016 Gregg Olson Award will be named in Omaha, Nebraska during the College World Series which is to be held this season at TD Ameritrade Park.
