Mizzou RHP is a member of Tiger Leadership Institute and leads Mizzou in volunteer hours
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou sophomore RHP Nolan Gromacki (Smithville, Mo.) has been named to the 2016 SEC Baseball Community Service Team, as announced Wednesday (May 18) by the league office. The conference names a Community Service Team for each of its 21 league-sponsored sports, looking to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to his community through superior service efforts.
Gromacki led all Mizzou Baseball players in community service hours this year and has volunteered his time to a variety of different organizations and causes, including Mizzou Moves – an organization of Mizzou athletes dedicated to getting young kids up, moving and active. He was also involved in the 100 Man Lunch, a Central Missouri organization that specializes in encouraging the importance of male involvement in young children's lives. He worked with the 2nd & Seven Foundation, reading and providing free books and positive role models to kids in need while encouraging young athletes of the community to pay it forward. He has also visited MU Children's Hospital as a volunteer and helped with the hospital's Street Party. He also participated in the Knowledge is Power Program and hosted Mizzou's annual athletics award ceremony, ROARS, in May.
He is already in junior standing academically as a mechanical engineering major as well. Additionally, he was one of 19 male Mizzou athletes selected to the Tiger Leadership Institute, a leadership development program designed to aid in shaping Mizzou student athletes into productive leaders while they are on campus, as well preparing them to be effective leaders after graduation. The program draws on the theory of authentic leadership and the UM Leadership Competency Model to assist student athletes in identity development, discovering their authentic leadership style, and how to best impact, lead and empower those around them.
On the field, Gromacki has pitched in 14 games this season, totaling 11.0 innings and has struck out 13 batters in those 11 innings while walking just two.
