COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou Track & Field is winding down their regular season this weekend, traveling to Memphis for the two-day Tiger Invitational. Starting Friday (April 29) afternoon with the hammer throw and 5000m run competitions, events at the Billy J. Murphy Track Complex will continue into Saturday (April 30) evening.
Friday evening's stormy forecast pushed the 5000m run and hammer throw back into Saturday. The 5000m will begin at 9 a.m., and the hammer will immediately follow the discus.
#MIZTF LAST TIME OUT
- The women's sprints squad continued rewriting the record books during last weekend's John McDonnell Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The group of nine women earned four PR's, two All-Time Top Ten marks, and two school records throughout the meet.
- The women's 4x100m relay went back-to-back with record performances, as the squad of freshman Maya Cody, junior LaQuisha Jackson, and seniors Alyssa Felton and Jacqueline Obi took down their own record time with a 44.54 finish. The foursome had already broken the 28-year-old record the weekend before at the Tom Botts Invitational in Columbia in 44.80.
- Junior Valerie Thames finally took down the 36-year-old record in the 100m hurdles (13.48 by Pam Page), timing through with a 13.29 in the final. That time shaved off 0.41-seconds off of her previous PR (13.70), hit earlier this season.
- Senior Alyssa Felton also earned a new 100m hurdles PR, moving up to No. 3 on the All-Time Top Ten with her 13.60 finish.
- The men's sprints also saw a pair of exciting performances, first from senior Markesh Woodson who became the second-fastest 100m dash sprinter in school history after racing to a 10.13 PR.
- Freshman Kahmari Montgomery also hit a No. 2 All-Time mark, winning the 400m dash competition in 46.00.
- Sophomore Karissa Schweizer returned after a stellar weekend at the Mt. SAC Relays (April 14-15), where she became the third-fastest woman in school history for the 5000m run (15:58.09). She now also owns the No. 2 time in Mizzou history for the 1500m run after winning the competition at the John McDonnell Invite in 4:17.47.
- Out of the field events, sophomore Alex Pascal reset his Cayman Islands national record in the javelin throw with a PR toss of 73.52m (241-2), putting himself at No. 4 in the Mizzou All-Time Top Ten.
#MIZTF NOTES
- Kaitlyn Fischer will make her first appearance since she made her season debut in the 10k run two weeks ago. The junior will be one of eight Tiger women in the 5000m run on Friday evening.
- Joining Fischer on the line will be fellow-junior Teylar Adelsberger, who has had a break-out season so far in the 3000m steeplechase. Adelsberger's latest PR of 10:12.39 in the event has her at No. 2 in the Mizzou record books.
- Saturday's competition will be in full swing starting at 10 a.m. with the start of the field events. Among the Tigers set to be featured is freshman Matthew Ludwig, who is currently tied at No. 3 in the Mizzou record books for the pole vault (5.30m // 17-4.50).
- Sophomore Alex Pascal will retake the runway after his PR performance in the javelin last weekend. His top throw of 73.52m (241-2) not only reset Cayman Islands national record, but also put him at No. 4 in the Mizzou All-Time Top Ten.
- Freshman Gabi Jacobs will look to continue her exciting debut season, doubling in the women's shot put and discus. She sits just behind recent grads Kearsten Peoples and Jill Rushin in the discus record books with her PR of 53.24m (174-8) from last weekend.
- Sophomore Karissa Schweizer will look, once again, toward the school record in the women's 1500m. Schweizer is within four-seconds of breaking Laura Roxberg's 2013 record (4:13.53) with her 4:17.47 PR.
- Senior Will Crocker will also look to reset the 1500m record on the men's side. Crocker sits less than 0.10-seconds off from the 1964 time set by the legendary Robin Lingle (3:42.24c) after his 3:42.30 PR at the Mt. SAC Relays.
