The Tigers closed out their only home meet of the season on Saturday
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Track & Field closed out the two-day Tom Botts Invitational on Saturday (April 16), collecting 12 PR's, nine All-Time Top Ten marks, 12 event wins, four meet records, and a new Mizzou School Record in the women's 4x100m relay. After both days of competition, the Tigers saw a total of 20 PR's and ten All-Time Top Ten marks out of Audrey J. Walton Stadium.
While the majority of the team remained home this weekend, a group of ten Tigers made the trip out to Walnut, Califiornia, to line up in one of the most prestigious distance meets in the country - the Mt. SAC Relays. Their events, which started on Thursday (April 14), closed out Friday evening with a total of six PR's and five All-Time Top Ten marks.
#MIZTF TOM BOTTS HIGHLIGHTS – ON THE TRACK
The women's 4x100m relay got events on the track rolling with one of the day's highlights. The foursome of freshman Maya Cody, junior LaQuisha Jackson, and seniors Alyssa Felton and Jacqueline Obi crossed the line in 44.80, dropping over 0.20 seconds off of the previous record from 1988.
The men's 4x100m followed that performance with another All-Time Top Ten mark as senior Markesh Woodson, freshman Kahmari Montgomery, and sophomores Niager Mathis and Jonathan Holder finished in 39.87. That performance earned them the event win and meet record, and put them in the No. 3 slot for the All-Time Top Ten.
In the individual events, Jackson just missed her 100m dash PR with an 11.49 crossing, good for second overall. On the men's side, senior Markesh Woodson claimed the event win with a 10.14 finish. That mark would have put him within the top two of the All-Time Top Ten list had it not been for the wind aid. It will still be good for an improved regional ranking, though, putting him in third for the NCAA West Region, according to the most recent rankings.
In the men's 400m dash, freshman Kahmari Montgomery took to the track for the first time in the event since his performance at the NCAA Indoor Championship meet in March. Kahmari, who owns the indoor school record, timed through in 46.47, good for a new meet record and No. 4 in the outdoor record book.
The women's 400m also saw the No. 4 performance in school history, as junior Sandrae Farquharson crossed for the win in 53.70. Fellow-junior Sydney Wells also hit a new PR in the event, taking ninth in the field (56.84).
Rounding out the highlights for the day's individual events was sophomore Valeska Halamicek, who nudged her way into the All-Time Top Ten with a 2:08.22 finish. That time ties her with the tenth-fastest time in school history, held by Layne Moore since 2010, and earned her a spot on the Tom Botts Invitational record board.
Closing out the day's events was the women's 4x400m. The Tigers have already seen two new school records out of the event this season, and although Saturday's performance fell just short of a third, it did earn the foursome of junior Valerie Thames, Farquharson, Wells, and senior Ayo Adewole the No. 2 spot in the Mizzou record books.
#MIZTF TOM BOTTS HIGHLIGHTS – IN THE FIELD
The women's pole vault started events with the Tigers' first win of the day. Junior Alyssa Applebee jumped to a new PR and the No. 3 bar in Mizzou history with a 4.06m (13-3.75) performance. Freshman Bri Gibbs closed the competition in seventh overall with the No. 7 performance in school history (3.76m // 12-4).
In the women's triple jump, senior Danielle Williams hit a huge PR, extending her best by over a foot with a final mark of 12.32m (40-5). That performance earned her the event win and the No. 3 slot in the Mizzou All-Time Top Ten.
The throws events also saw a series of PR's, adding to the five earned during Friday evening's hammer throw competition. Freshman Gabi Jacobs tossed her second consecutive PR mark in the shot put with an eighth-place finish in the field (14.68m // 48-2), followed by a PR from freshman Sarah Weidner who closed in 10th.
In the men's throwing events, freshman Will Fife hit a new PR en route to a seventh-place finish (16.45m // 53-11.75). Fife also hit a new discus PR, closing that competition in seventh, as well (47.71m // 156-6).
TOM BOTTS OUTSTANDING PERFORMER AWARDS
Southern Illinois University claimed both the Men's and Women's Outstanding Performer Award for the meet. The women's award went to senior DeAnna Price, who won Friday's hammer throw competition with a mark of 71.82m (235-7), won the collegiate field in the shot put (16.04m // 52-7.50), and placed second in the discus (48.11m // 157-10). Price currently leads the NCAA, and is ranked third in the world, for the hammer throw with her 72.48m (237-9) PR from earlier this month.
The men's award went to junior Kyle Landon, who's winning effort of 2.22m (7-3.25) in the high jump earned him a new meet record, a new outdoor PR, and a top four ranking in the NCAA. Landon also led the collegiate field in the long jump with a wind-aided 7.68m (25-2.50) performance.
#MIZTF HONORS SENIOR CLASS
Saturday's Tom Botts Invitational also served as the team's Senior Day, with the 17 members of the senior class getting honored throughout the day's competition.

"We're very proud of this senior group," Head Coach Brett Halter said. "Their contributions to the University, community, Athletic Department, and Track & Field/Cross Country teams have been invaluable. Each of our graduating seniors have made a tremendous difference in their time at Mizzou, and that will never graduate."
#MIZTF MT. SAC HIGHLIGHTS
There was no shortage of record performances for the Tigers in California this weekend, as six of the ten student-athletes to make the trip will return home with new personal bests.
"We have enjoyed two fantastic nights of racing out here," Assistant Coach Marc Burns said. "The 10k crew got us started last night and the momentum carried over to tonight. Everybody ran really smart races with finding the right group early on in each race. We are really proud of the way all the Tigers competed this weekend!"
The women's 10,000m run kicked off events at Mt. SAC for the black and gold, with junior Kaitlyn Fischer making her season debut for the event with a tenth-place finish (34:10.30). Joining her in the field was freshman Jamie Kempfer, who made her Tiger debut in the 10k with the fourth-fastest time in school history, crossing in 13th in the elite section with a final time of 34:24.23.
The men's elite section was up next, with junior Ollie Lockley also making his Tiger debut in the event. Lockley's 29:41.88 crossing was good for 13th in the field, and No. 8 on the All-Time Top Ten list. Senior Dan Roe finished close behind, crossing with a new PR of 30:04.14 for 24th.
Sophomore Ellyn Atkinson closed Thursday's events with the women's open 10k, finishing in 35:21.46 for her event debut.
Record marks continued to fall on Friday starting with senior Will Crocker's 3:42.30 finish in the men's 1500m run. That time, which cut over a second off of his previous best, earned him a third-place finish in the elite section and the No. 2 position in the Mizzou history books. That crossing also put him well within qualification for the NCAA West Regional, as he ranks fourth in the most recent rankings, tenth in the NCAA.
Senior Sam Dickerson was up next, lining up for his second 3000m steeplechase of the season. His 8:53.83 finish was just off of his 8:51.69 PR and puts him in first for the most recent SEC rankings.
In the women's 3000m steeplechase, junior Teylar Adelsberger dropped 12-seconds off of her PR from the Florida Relays two weeks ago to cross in 10:12.39, only four-seconds off of the current school record. That finish, which put her in 12th for the field, is the No. 11 time in the most recent NCAA regional rankings, and No. 15 in the NCAA.
Sophomore Karissa Schweizer also dropped some serious time off of her PR, topping her previous best in the 5000m run by 34-seconds. Her 15:58.09 finish is the third-fastest in Mizzou history and puts her at No. 6 in the most recent national rankings.
The Tigers will be back on the road next weekend, traveling to Fayetteville, Arkansas, for the John McDonnell Invitational on Friday and Saturday (April 22-23). For the latest on Mizzou Track & Field, stay tuned to MUTigers.com and follow the team on Twitter @MIZ_TrackField.
