Men’s golf, women’s swimming & diving, tennis and volleyball earn national recognition
COLUMBIA, Mo. - Four Mizzou Athletics programs have been honored for outstanding performance in the classroom by the NCAA, it was announced Wednesday. Mizzou's men's golf, women's swimming and diving, tennis and volleyball squads' latest APR scores for the 2014-15 academic year were in the Top 10 percent of their respective sports.
The Tigers were one of six Southeastern Conference schools to have four or more sport programs earn NCAA Public Recognition, joined by Alabama, Auburn, Kentucky, LSU and Vanderbilt.
The NCAA's Academic Progress Rating (APR) provides a real-time look at a program's academic success for each semester by tracking the progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each program's academic performance.
Mizzou's programs doubled their Top 10 performances from a year ago, when women's swimming and diving and women's track and field were the two Mizzou teams recognized for their work in the classroom for the 2013-14 academic year.
Mizzou's academic excellence is aided by the atmosphere cultivated by Mizzou's Total Person Program, a comprehensive array of tutorial and life skills services to ensure student-athlete success. The Total Person Program provides support tailored to each individual's academic needs and goals.
