The Tigers will face a loaded championship field this weekend, as the SEC boasts six of the top-ten ranked men's team in the country, and seven of the top-20 women's teams according to the most recent release from the USTFCCCA (U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Assocation).
#MIZTF NOTES
- Among the notable names taking to the track on Friday is senior Markesh Woodson, who returns to the Randal Tyson Track after timing through a mere 0.01-seconds off from his school record mark two weeks ago during the Tyson Invitational (6.59). Woodson, the sole returning SEC Champion for the black and gold (60m dash, 2013) and the runner-up in 2015, enters the weekend ranked second in the conference in the 60m dash.
- Junior LaQuisha Jackson will also take to the track for the 60m and 200m dashes, two of her three school record events on the indoor circuit. Joining her in the 60m field will be freshman Maya Cody, who has already placed her name on the Mizzou record board as a member of the fastest 4x400m relay team in school history. Cody, Jackson, junior Valerie Thames, and senior Sandrae Farquharson hit their record time of 3:37.67 on the Tyson Track two weeks ago (February 13) during the Tyson Invitational.
- The Tigers also return three of the four members of last year's third-place men's DMR squad in junior Jerrad Mason, and seniors Will Crocker and Sam Dickerson. Mason will double in both the 200m and 400m dashes, while Crocker and Dickerson will both be featured in the mile field. Crocker currently holds the second-fastest time in school history for the event, after he timed through in 4:01.34 on the Tyson Track in 2015.
- Senior Alyssa Felton will take to the blocks for the first time since her school record run in the 60m hurdles during the Missouri Collegiate Challenge (February 19). After sharing the top slot alongside Teri LeBlanc and Janay Woolridge at the top of the Missouri record boards for over a month, Felton finally solidified herself as the sole school record holder, defending her home track with an 8.50 finish.
- Rounding out the school record holders highlighting Friday's evens is freshman Kahmari Montgomery, who's 47.33 bested the 28-year-old record held by Rob Collier. Montgomery will take to the line in both the 400m and 200m dashes, the latter in which he is ranked 12th in the conference with his 21.15 PR.
- In the men's pole vault, freshman Matthew Ludwig will continue his quest for the school record bar. His current PR of 5.30m (17-4.50) has him currently ranked fifth in the conference.
- In the distance events, sophomore Karissa Schweizer will look to earn her first podium finish on the track. She enters the competition ranked second in the field with her PR of 9:17.98.
HEAR FROM COACH HALTER...
"The team's in good shape. We had a terrific regular season and this is a very competitive group. The coaching staff's done an amazing job getting everyone ready and we're looking forward to a fun weekend. This is easily the best meet in the world this weekend, and Missouri Track & Field is a big part of that. We're going to have a lot of fun just competing and doing what we've been doing all year."
