@MizzouTennis Improves to 12-1 with Wins over Furman and USC-Upstate

The Tigers defeat the Furman, 4-3, and USC-Upstate, 6-1
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Mizzou Tennis (12-1) recorded two more wins on Sunday, defeating Furman, 4-3, and USC-Upstate, 6-1, in a doubleheader played in Greenville, S.C. Junior Cassidy Spearman (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) clinched the nail-biting victory in the first match at No. 3 singles against Furman before the Tigers cruised to the 6-1 win against USC-Upstate.
The Tigers picked up the doubles point against Furman with wins at the No. 1 and 2 positions, each winning by a score of 6-3. The Tiger team of senior Kelli Hine (New Braunfels, Texas) and junior Bea Machado Santos (Lisbon, Portugal) defeated Katarina Weymouth and Ansley Speaks, while sophomore Brianna Lashway (Bradenton, Fla.) and Spearman knocked off Blair Martin and Gabby Rodriguez.
Mizzou won three matches in singles play against Furman, coming from junior Brittany Lashway (Bradenton, Fla.), freshman Turner Yates (Jackson, Miss.), and Spearman. The score was tied 3-3 with Spearman on the court against Martin. After trading 7-6 wins in sets one and two, Spearman secured the Tiger win in set three with a 7-5 win, giving Mizzou the 4-3 victory.
In the second match of the day against USC-Upstate, the Tigers earned the victory in a much less stressful match. Mizzou won five matches in singles play, with the only loss coming because of an injury retirement. Brittany Lashway and Yates each earned 6-0, 6-0, wins in the match. Lashway's win was over Anna Nemeth at the No. 5 position while Yates' was over Harper Caswell at the No. 6 position.
In doubles play, Brittany Lashway and Yates continued their dominance as Mizzou won all three matches. The Tiger duo defeated Ruby Kubac and Anna Nemeth, 6-0.
Mizzou will next play on Thursday, March 3, when the Tigers begin conference play with a road match at South Carolina. The match is scheduled for 5 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. CT.
