Crow also earns Offensive Player of the Week accolade
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Mizzou Volleyball redshirt junior Melanie Crow (Wildwood, Mo.) was named Week 11 Southeastern Conference Player of the Week, as announced Monday by the SEC office. The Tiger outside hitter also garnered SEC Offensive Player of the Week accolades, following her standout weekend from Oct. 31 – Nov. 6.
Monday afternoon's honor marked Crow's second and third recognition by the SEC office this year and in her collegiate career. Crow joins teammate Alyssa Munlyn (Suwanee, Ga.) as Tigers to garner SEC Player of the Week honors this season (Week 9).
Crow produced a team-leading 31 kills, 4.43 kills per set and 34.5 points over Mizzou's perfect weekend, including a dominating 3-0 sweep at No. 18 Kentucky. The win marked Mizzou's first road sweep over a Top 20 ranked team since Nov. 15, 2013, at No. 5 Florida.
In the Tigers' big win Sunday in Lexington, Ky., Crow secured her 300th kill this year and surpassed 1,000 kills in her outstanding career with Ole Miss and Mizzou.
The Wildwood, Mo., native led Mizzou in single-match kills both times this weekend, keying wins at Tennessee and No. 18 Kentucky. Crow has now paced Mizzou in single-match kills a team high 17 times this year.
Additionally, she produced double-digit kills each time out, marking her 16th and 17th 10-plus kill matches this season. Crow has tallied double-digit kill outings in eight of Mizzou's 13 conference matchups this season.
Overall this season, Mizzou has received six weekly awards from the SEC office. Crow (three), Munlyn (two) and senior Carly Kan (one) have each been recognized for their outstanding play on the court in 2016.
Mizzou (21-4, 12-1 SEC) sits atop the SEC standings alongside Florida with only five matches remaining in the 2016 regular season. Up next, the Tigers head to South Carolina on Sunday, Nov. 13. First serve between Mizzou and the Gamecocks is scheduled for 3 p.m. (CT).
