
@MizzouSwimDive Wins 10 Events During Day One Action in Quad Dual

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Mizzou men's and women's swimming and diving teams won a combined 10 events as the Tigers opened competition against Kentucky, Northwestern and Southern Illinois in a two-day quad dual Friday in Lexington, Ky.
Halfway through the meet, the No. 17 Mizzou women and No. 20 men hold leads over all three teams. The women lead No. 20 Kentucky 108-78, Northwestern 131-55 and Southern Illinois 147-37. The men are ahead of Kentucky 94-92, Northwestern 134-51 and Southern Illinois 143-43.
The squads opened the day with a sweep in the 200 free relays. On the women's side, freshman Haley Hynes (Lee's Summit, Mo.), junior Hannah Stevens (Lexington, Ohio), sophomore Maddie Gehrke (Clive, Iowa) and junior Rachel Hayden (Indianapolis, Ind.) took the win in 1:33.55, while the men's foursome of seniors Michael Chadwick (Charlotte, N.C.), Fabian Schwingenschlogl (Nuremberg, Barvaria, Germany) and Andrew Sansoucie (Wentzville, Mo.) and sophomore Mikel Schreuders (Oranjestad, Aruba) touched first in 1:21.50.
Chadwick remained unbeaten in the 100 free as he won top honors in the event with a time of 43.52. Sansoucie placed fourth after a swim of 45.75. Hayden proved victorious in the women's 100 free as she touched the wall first in 50.99.
In the women's 100 breast, senior Katharine Ross (Des Moines, Iowa) breezed to win in a time of 1:01.10, nearly three seconds faster than the second-place finisher.
Schwingenschlogl led a top three sweep in the men's 100 breast. He clocked a time of 55.16 to take the win, followed by senior Eddie Mapel (Hinsdale, Ill.) in second in 55.89 and junior Jordy Groters (Oranjestad, Aruba) in third in 56.01.
Freshman Azra Avdic (Skokie, Ill.) won her second 200 fly title in as many days after a swim of 2:00.55, while junior Sharli Brady (Burlington, Ky.) was second in 2:00.96.
Mizzou also swept both the men's and women's 200 back. Senior Carter Griffin won the men's race in 1:45.69, while freshman Daniel Hein (Sycamore, Ill.) and sophomore Anthony Ashley (Houston, Texas) placed second and third, respectively, in 1:48.74 and 1:48.80.
One the women's side, Stevens clocked a time of 1:57.14 to take the win, while Nadine Laemmler (Wackersdorf, Bavaria, Germany) was third in 1:57.44.
The Tiger women concluded day one with a win in the 400 medley relay, where Stevens, Ross, junior Erin Metzger-Seymour (Westminster, Colo.) and Hayden took the win in 3:40.84.
In the diving well, redshirt senior Lauren Reedy (Rochester Hills, Mich.) placed second on 3-meter with a score of 304.25 and junior Madeline McKernan (Montgomery, Texas) finished second on 1-meter after a round of 291.75. On men's 3-meter, sophomore Kyle Goodwin (Aurora, Colo.) was second with a tally of 369.15 and junior Hunter Fritter (Houston, Texas) second on 1-meter with a score of 293.95.
Also earning second-place finishes on Friday were Brady in the women's 200 IM (2:01.44) and freshman Nick Alexander (Crestwood, Mo.) in the men's 200 IM (1:50.53).
Day two action against Kentucky, Northwestern and Southern Illinois continues Saturday, Nov. 5 at 9 a.m. CT.
