BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Mizzou Volleyball senior Carly Kan (Honolulu) garnered Week 14 Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Week accolades, as announced Monday by the SEC office.
Monday afternoon's honor marked Kan's second recognition by the SEC office this year. Earlier this season, she won Week 5 SEC Co-Offensive Player of the Week honors following standout performances from Sept. 19-25. Overall, Kan has now accumulated six career SEC weekly honors during her tenure at Mizzou (2013-present).
Kan was sensational on defense this past week (Nov. 21-27), playing a key role into the Tigers' 2016 SEC Championship clinching matches. She recorded a team-high 18 digs in each of Mizzou's sweeps against Georgia (Nov. 23) and Tennessee (Nov. 26), leading to an incredible 6.00 digs per set.
Kan has paced the Tigers in single-match digs in five consecutive matches and has led the team in single-match digs 11 total times this year.
Saturday evening's performance against the Volunteers surpassed 1,400 career digs in her memorable Mizzou Volleyball career. Kan ranks fourth in all-time career digs (1,408) and Top 10 in all-time career digs per set (2.91).
Mizzou (25-5, 16-2 SEC), winners of its second SEC crown in the past four seasons, begins NCAA Tournament play on Thursday, Dec. 1, at the Hearnes Center. The Tigers will meet Northern Illinois in their first round matchup with first serve scheduled for 6:30 p.m. (CT).
Under Wayne Kreklow and Susan Kreklow's tenure in Mid-Missouri (2000-present), the Tigers have now reached the NCAA Tournament 13 total times.
