Stevens posts the fastest 100 back time in college swimming this season at the meet
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou swimming junior Hannah Stevens (Lexington, Ohio) helped Team USA defeat select swimmers from the Big Ten Conference, 349-247 this past weekend in the USA College Challenge, presented by Arena. During the meet she clocked the fastest 100 back time recorded by a collegian this season and was a new personal best.
Stevens represented the U.S. and swam the 400 medley relay and 100 and 200 back races during the two-day meet. As the leadoff leg of Team USA's A 400 medley relay, she swam a 100 back split of 51.18, which stands as the fastest time in the nation this year by more than half a second and was a new personal best by more than half a second.
Individually, Stevens placed second in the 100 back and third in the 200 back swimming against other Team USA members and the best from the Big Ten. She swam a 52.02 in the 100 back and a 1:53.30 in the 200 back, the latter of which ranks her third nationally in the event.
Stevens was eligible to represent Team USA as a 2016-17 member of the National Team. The junior made the team for the second year in a row after placing fifth in the 100 back at the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials. She is joined on Team USA by 10 members of the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team, including eight medalists.
As a sophomore in 2015-16, she claimed one first team and two honorable mention All-America honors at the NCAA Championships. She was a member of Mizzou's sixth-place 400 medley relay team and took 14th individually in the 100 back at NCAAs.
The Tigers next return to the pool for the three-day Mizzou Invite, which runs Thursday, Nov. 17-Saturday, Nov. 19. Preliminary action will begin at 10 a.m. each day, with finals slated to start at 6 p.m.
