Tigers now turn preparation for upcoming 2017 regular season
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Softball welcomed Evangel University and Jefferson College to University Field on Friday evening for its final two 2016 Fall Ball matchups. The Tigers opened the evening with a 19-4 victory over Evangel, followed by a 7-0 triumph over Jefferson College.
Game #1
Mizzou opened scoring in the first inning, following an RBI triple by junior Amanda Sanchez (West Covina, Calif.) and RBI ground out from freshman Braxton Burnside (Paragould, Ark.). The Tigers quickly relinquished their early lead after allowing four runs in the bottom half of the frame.
Sophomore Rylee Pierce (Visalia, Calif.) highlighted a five-run third inning for Mizzou after a towering three-run home run to right-center. An inning later, senior Kirsten Mack (Riverside, Calif.) laced an RBI triple that plugged the left-center gap.
After a rough opening inning of work, redshirt sophomore Madi Norman (Tipton, Mo.) rebounded nicely with three consecutive scoreless frames. Mack continued her standout evening in the sixth inning, adding her third hit and fifth total RBI.
The Tigers' offense put an exclamation on game one with eight runs in the seventh inning. Mack concluded her 4-for-5 night at the plate with her second double. The Tiger catcher finished with a team high seven RBI. Junior Paige Bange (Jefferson City, Mo.) and freshman Cayla Kessinger (Saugus, Calif.) later tallied Mizzou's final run-producing hits of the game.
Freshman Parker Conrad (Winter Park, Fla.) recorded 3.0 scoreless innings in relief, securing 6.0 consecutive scoreless frames by Tigers pitching to conclude the game. Freshman Regan Nash (Camden Point, Mo.), Kessinger, Sanchez, Burnside, Mack and Bange all recorded multi-hit efforts at the plate.
Game #2
Senior Cheyenne Baxter (Norborne, Mo.) jumped out to a quick start, striking out the side in the first inning. The Tigers tallied four consecutive RBI singles in the second inning to open their scoring. Sophomore Cosette Tomita (Oak Forest, Ill.), Burnside, Nash and Pierce all delivered for Mizzou in its four-run frame.
Two innings later, Nash maintained her productive night at the plate with another RBI ground out. Following Baxter's outstanding 4.0 innings of work with eight strikeouts, sophomore Danielle Baumgartner (Mexico, Mo.) entered in relief for the final three innings.
