BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Mizzou Volleyball sophomore Alyssa Munlyn (Suwanee, Ga.) was named Week 9 Southeastern Conference Player of the Week, as announced Monday by the SEC office. The Tiger middle blocker also garnered SEC Defensive Player of the Week accolades, following her outstanding two-match stretch from Oct. 17-23.
Monday afternoon's honor marked Munlyn's first recognition by the SEC office this year. Additionally, it's Munlyn's fifth career weekly honor from the conference, as she was named SEC Freshman of the Week four times in 2015.
Munlyn joins teammates redshirt junior Melanie Crow (Wildwood, Mo.) and senior Carly Kan (Honolulu) as Tigers to garner SEC weekly awards this season.
This past week, Munlyn produced a team-leading four solo blocks, 13 block assists, 17 total blocks and 2.12 blocks per set. The Suwanee, Ga., native played a key role into Mizzou's perfect week, including a thrilling 3-2 victory on Sunday, Oct. 23, against No. 21 Kentucky.
Mizzou produced 15.0 total blocks against LSU, followed by a season high 16.0 total blocks against Kentucky. Munlyn paved the way individually in each match, tallying nine and eight total blocks, respectively. She has paced the Tigers in single-match total blocks a team high 17 times this year.
Munlyn also continued her outstanding play on offense against the Tigers and Wildcats, recording 18 total kills on .433 hitting. Through Mizzou's nine SEC matches this season, Munlyn has hit .300 or higher in a match eight times, including .400-plus hitting percentage in six contests.
Overall this season, Munlyn's .431 hitting percentage ranks 2nd in the SEC, while her 24 solo blocks ranks 1st. In conference only action, her .509 hitting ranks 1st, 13 solo blocks ranks 1st and 41 total blocks ranks 3rd.
Mizzou (18-3, 9-0 SEC), winners of 13 consecutive matches, hits the road on Wednesday, Oct. 26, for a matchup at Texas A&M. The Tigers and Aggies will compete live on ESPNU with first serve scheduled for 8 p.m. (CT).
Mizzou returns home on Sunday, Oct. 30, as Mississippi State visits the Hearnes Center. First serve is set for 1:30 p.m. (CT) and the match will broadcast live on SEC Network + via WatchESPN.
