Crow recorded 23 kills and 16 digs in Mizzou's thrilling comeback win at Alabama
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Mizzou Volleyball redshirt junior OH Melanie Crow (Wildwood, Mo.) was named Week 8 Southeastern Conference Offensive Player of the Week, as announced Monday by the SEC office.
Monday afternoon's honor marked Crow's first recognition by the SEC office this year and in her collegiate career. Crow joins teammate Carly Kan (Honolulu) as Tigers to garner SEC Offensive Player of the Week accolades this season.
Crow was sensational on offense and as an all-around player in the Tigers' lone match this past week. The Tiger newcomer tallied 23 kills and 16 digs at Alabama (Oct. 16), keying a thrilling 3-2 comeback victory in Tuscaloosa.
Crow's 23 kills matched her career high, previously set in 2014 when she competed with Ole Miss. Her 16 digs and steady defensive play against the Crimson Tide also helped secure her seventh double-double of the season. Crow also matched her career high in points, as she scored 24.0 for the second time in her career.
Sunday's effort at Foster Auditorium marked her third 20-plus kill match of the season. Additionally, Crow's team high 23 kills led the Tigers in single match strikes for the 14th time this season.
The Wildwood, Mo., native has been sensational in her first season at Mizzou. Crow currently leads the Tigers in kills (266), kills per set (3.80), service aces (36), service aces per set (0.51) and points (322.5).
Mizzou (16-3, 7-0 SEC), winners of 11 consecutive matches, looks to continue its winning ways with a pair of home matchups this week. The Tigers host LSU on Wednesday, Oct. 19, followed by a contest at the Hearnes Center on Sunday, Oct. 23, against No. 23 Kentucky.
First serve for this week's home matchups is set for 7 p.m. (CT) and 1 p.m. (CT), respectively. Both SEC contests will broadcast live on SEC Network.
