Santos/Ismail Advance to Quarterfinals of USTA/ITA Central Region Championships

Spearman and Middlebrooks advance to Consolation Quarterfinals as Mizzou Tennis wins eight matches
COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Mizzou Tennis doubles pairing of senior Bea Machado Santos (Lisbon, Portugal) and junior Amina Ismail (Maineville, Ohio) advanced into the doubles quarterfinals by winning two matches in the morning session on the third day of play at the USTA/ITA Central Region Championships at the Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis, Minn.
Santos and Ismail defeated the pairing of Annemarie Emme and Tina Kreinis from Minnesota 8-5 to advance into the round of 16 where they were victorious in their rematch against the pairing of Lisa Andersson and Mary Hanna from Nebraska 8-7 (3). Santos and Ismail had lost to Andersson and Hanna 6-4 in the Mizzou Invite earlier this fall season. The victory puts Santos and Ismail into the Quarterfinals where they will face Mia Jurasic and Ana Oparenovic from Arkansas at 9 a.m.
In singles play, senior Cassidy Spearman (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) and freshman Mackenzy Middlebrooks (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) each won both of their singles matches in the consolation bracket to advance into the quarterfinals. They are scheduled to play tomorrow upon the completion of the doubles matches.
Junior Clare Raley (Atlanta, Ga.) earned her first win of the season in a singles match, 7-5, 3-6, 10-7, over Kenya Williams from Drake. The victory pushes Raley's career win total to an impressive 44 matches.
