Santos Earns 100th Career Win at USTA/ITA Central Region Championships

Mizzou Tennis wins four matches in opening round of Central Region Championships
COLUMBIA, MO. – Senior Bea Machado Santos (Lisbon, Portugal) won her 100th career match by defeating South Dakota State's Iasmin Rosa in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. The win was one of four for Mizzou Tennis on day one of the USTA/ITA Central Region Championships at the Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis, Minn.
Santos is ranked No. 36 in the nation in the ITA preseason rankings and was invited to the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships earlier this season. The milestone victory was her first singles win of the fall campaign after she set a new career high with 42 overall wins last season.
Junior Brianna Lashway (Bradenton, Fla.) won her fourth consecutive singles match, defeating Tiffany Hollebeck of SIUE in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. The victory gives Lashway a perfect 4-0 record in singles matches so far this season. The four-match win streak in singles play is her longest since winning six in a row from Jan. 7 to Feb. 6 last spring.
In the afternoon session, Mizzou rattled off three victories as Santos, junior Amina Ismail (Maineville, Ohio) and freshman Tate Schroeder (Centennial, Colo.) all earned wins.
Ismail improved her singles record to 3-1 this year by defeating Ashley Ishimura of Creighton in two sets, 6-4, 6-1. She advances to the round of 64 and is slated to face Oklahoma State's Lena Ruppert.
Schroeder continues to impress in her freshman season. She defeated Melinda Johnson from UMKC 7-5, 6-2. The victory was Schroeder's second career singles win at the collegiate level. She advances to the round of 64 tomorrow to face Oklahoma's Julie Byrne.
Mizzou will continue the USTA/ITA Central Region Championships tomorrow, Oct. 14. There will be four doubles matches starting at 8 a.m. with singles starting upon the completion of doubles play. For up to date information throughout the tournament, follow @MizzouTennis on Twitter.
