COLUMBIA, Mo. – Junior Andy Toelken (Green Cove Springs, Fla.) tossed 3.0 shutout innings to back five early runs as Team Black bested Team Gold, 6-0, on Thursday afternoon to even the Fall World Series at one win apiece.

Black took an early lead in the top half of the first as a costly error led to a sacrifice fly off the bat of junior C Brett Bond (St. Louis, Mo.), scoring Connor Brumfield (Columbia, Mo.), who reached on the error. Black extended the lead in the top of the third, loading the bases with no outs. A single by Brian Sharp (Liberty, Mo.) brought in a run and a wild pitch by Ryan Lee (Grandview, Mo.) brought in two more runs and Chris Cornelius (St. Louis, Mo.) tallied a two-out single to plate the third run of the inning, giving black a 5-0 lead.

Gold threatened in the bottom of the fourth, putting the first two men aboard off of reliever Nolan Gromacki (Smithville, Mo.), but he induced a double play and got a pop up to get out of the jam unscathed.

Black nearly added more runs in the top of the sixth inning, but CF Kirby McGuire (Round Rock, Texas) gunned a runner at the dish to save a run.

Luke Boyster (Imperial, Mo.) pitched the fifth and sixth innings for Team Black. Gold nearly got to him in the form of an Alex Samples (Bidgeport, Texas) homer, but it was caught on the track for out No. 3, stranding a runner. Black added another run in the top of the seventh on a wild pitch and Cole Bartlett (Williamsburg, Ind.) closed out the game for Team Black.
