Hine and Santos ranke in at No. 56, No. 4 in Central Region; Hine No. 20 in Central Rankings
SKILLMAN, N.J. – The Mizzou Tennis doubles team of senior Kelli Hine (New Braunfels, Texas) and junior Bea Machado Santos (Lisbon, Portugal) are ranked the No. 56 tandem in the nation in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division I Women's Collegiate rankings, as announced on Tuesday. Hine and Santos also stand as the No. 4 doubles team in the ITA Central regional rankings.
The duo is the first ranked doubles team for Mizzou since Elisha Gabb and Cierra Gayton-Leach, who were ranked No. 32 in the Sept. 6, 2013, ITA preseason rankings. Hine and Santos posted a 6-2 record over the 2015 fall season and will enter the spring season as the No. 1 team for the Tigers. Highlighting Hine and Santos' six fall doubles victories was a win over No. 35 Katarina Adamovic and Vladica Babic (Oklahoma State), 8-4, on Oct. 17, 2015, at the ITA Central Regional Tournament in Stillwater, Okla.
Hine, ranked No. 20 in the current ITA Central region singles rankings, posted 28 total wins a season ago for the Tigers. Three of those victories were over ranked opponents, including a win over No. 28 Erin Roulette (Alabama) on April 12, 2015. Following the victory over Roulette, Hine received her first career ITA national singles ranking as she earned the No. 122 spot.
Santos, competing in her second season with Mizzou, paced the 2014-15 Tigers in wins with a 30-24 overall record. Santos racked up 14 singles wins and tallied an impressive 16-7 record in doubles play. The Lisbon, Portugal, native was a perfect 5-0 between No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles play during last season's spring schedule.
