MAUI, Hawaii – Mizzou Tennis will open its 2016 spring schedule Tuesday when it competes in the Weinman Foundation Invitational at the Royal Lahaina Tennis Ranch in Maui, Hawaii. The tournament will run from Tuesday, Jan. 5 – Thursday, Jan. 7.
Hawaii, Texas Tech and Washington State will join Mizzou at the Weinman Foundation Invitational, which is slated to begin at 4 p.m. (CT) / 12 p.m. (HT).
Mizzou last competed at the Midwest Blast in Champaign, Ill., against Illinois, Notre Dame and Purdue. Mizzou picked up a singles split against Purdue thanks to match wins from junior Brittany Lashway (Bradenton, Fla.), sophomore Brianna Lashway (Bradenton, Fla.) and sophomore Clare Raley (Atlanta, Ga.).
Senior Kelli Hine (New Braunfels, Texas) is the sole Tiger to be ranked in the Oracle/ITA Division I Women's National Singles Preseason Rankings, coming in at No. 89 overall. Hine was 5-3 in singles play over the 2015 fall season and competed at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships in October. Hine and junior Bea Machado Santos (Lisbon, Portugal) produced a 6-2 record in doubles play over the fall schedule, including a win over the No. 35 ranked doubles team of Katarina Adamovic and Vladica Babic (Oklahoma State) at the ITA Central Regional Tournament in Stillwater, Okla.
All seven players from Head Coach Sasha Schmid's roster plan to compete in the Weinman Foundation Invitational this week. Brittany Lashway had the most wins in singles play for the Tigers in fall competition, posting a 9-3 record. In doubles play, Hine was 8-2 overall, Santos finished 9-4 and Raley posted an 8-3 mark. Freshman Turner Yates (Jackson, Miss.) picked up six singles wins in her first career action in black and gold, posting a 6-9 record in 15 singles matches.
