Junior outside hitter has been named MVP in all four tournaments this season
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Junior outside hitter Carly Kan (Honolulu, Hawaii) was named Southeastern Conference Volleyball Co-Offensive Player of the Week, as announced Monday by the SEC office. Kan recorded 55 kills on .307 hitting and earned tournament MVP honors at last weekend's Butler Invitational, guiding Mizzou to a 3-0 record on the weekend.
The two-time AVCA All-American led Mizzou throughout its trip to Indianapolis as she tallied her sixth and seventh double-double of the season. Kan also produced her seventh 20-plus kill match of the year after posting 25 kills on .418 hitting against host Butler.
Additionally against the Bulldogs, Kan recorded her 1,000th career kill as a Tiger. The Honolulu native also posted her 1,000th career point earlier this season, adding to her impressive tenure thus far in Mizzou black and gold.
In her last two matches at the Butler Invitational, Kan finished with 44 kills on .435 hitting. She currently ranks first in the SEC with 4.74 kills per set and 5.27 points per set. Kan also possesses an impressive .329 hitting percentage this season as the Tigers' leading attacker.
Kan's outstanding start to the season has led Mizzou to a second-place ranking in the SEC in team hitting percentage (.312) and third-place ranking in kills per set (14.09).
Monday's award is Kan's second honor from the SEC office this season. She was previously named SEC Player of the Week on Monday, Sept. 14, after tallying 72 kills on .299 hitting at the 2015 Appalachian State Invitational.
Mizzou (12-0) has claimed four consecutive tournament championships and is off to its best start since 2013. Overall, the Tigers are just one of four teams in program history to begin a season at least 12-0, joining the 1982, 2005 and 2013 Mizzou squads.
