COLUMBIA, Mo. – Junior Michael Chadwick (Charlotte, N.C.) and sophomore Hannah Stevens (Lexington, Ohio) of the Mizzou swimming team were named to the USA Swimming 2015-16 National Team, the organization announced on Tuesday (Sept. 1). Chadwick made the team in both the 50 and 100 free, while Stevens earned a spot in the 100 back.
The USA Swimming National Team is comprised of the six athletes with the highest world rankings in each Olympic event from the combined results of all USA Swimming or FINA sanctioned meets from Jan. 1, 2015, to Aug. 10, 2015.
"The USA Swimming National Team represents the highest level of swimming in the United States," said Frank Busch, USA Swimming National Team Director. "Heading into an Olympic year, this group of dedicated athletes will positively represent our country and aim to build on the National Team's tradition of success in and out of the pool."
Chadwick made the National Team in both the 50 and 100 free after bursting onto the national scene this summer with breakout performances at the Athens Speedo Sectional and U.S. National Championships. The junior ranks third among U.S. swimmers in the 100 free (48.87) and fifth in the 50 free (22.03) after stellar swims at the Speedo Sectional. At the Phillips 66 U.S. National Championships, Chadwick placed fourth in the 50 free and fifth in the 100 free.
As a sophomore in 2014-15, Chadwick earned All-America first team honors in the 50 free and as a part of Mizzou's 200 free relay team. He finished fourth in the 50 free and helped the Tigers place sixth in the 200 free relay, a program record finish. Chadwick also holds Mizzou's short course 50 (19.27), 100 free (42.29) and 200 free (1:34.47) records, all set last season.
Stevens earned a spot on the National Team in the 100 back with a standout summer. She swam a 1:00.04 in the event at the Columbia Speedo Sectional, a time that ranks her fifth among U.S. swimmers. The sophomore also finished fifth in the 100 back at the recent U.S. National Championships.
Last season Stevens claimed two first team and one honorable mention All-America honors as a freshman. She was a member of Mizzou's fourth-place 400 medley relay and seventh-place 200 medley relay teams and took 14th individually in the 100 back at the NCAA Championships.
