Mizzou Aims to Improve Postgame Traffic with I-70 Express

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Mizzou Department of Athletics has always placed a significant emphasis on improving the fan experience at events around the Sports Park at Mizzou and that will once again ring true at Mizzou Football games this fall. A major area of emphasis for the department has been improving the efficiency of postgame outbound traffic following games at Memorial Stadium and Mizzou Athletics wants to pass along tips to help alleviate congestion on the major roadways surrounding 'The Zou.' Mizzou has partnered with MUPD, MoDot, Missouri State Highway Patrol and CPD to determine areas of our existing traffic patterns that can be optimized.
A large part of Mizzou's plan to help alleviate postgame traffic is the introduction of the I-70 Express, which is west-bound Stadium Blvd. Mizzou is hopeful that fans heading home either west to Kansas City or east to St. Louis will use westbound Stadium Blvd. to access I-70. While it may seem like the opposite way for those headed east, this route should be faster than the alternative of Providence Road due to less congestion of vehicles entering the road and heavy pedestrian traffic. The first area of focus is getting vehicles to I-70 as quickly as possible via the I-70 Express to reduce congestion on other northbound routes.
Mizzou Athletics would also like to remind fans that making U-turns back into congestion or not following instructions of law enforcement and parking attendants will create more congestion and make it difficult to make improvements. If fans are re-routed due to congestion, they should seek an alternate route. All postgame traffic routes are put in place to reduce congestion and make the exit process more efficient following games.
The current traffic management plan will be evolving throughout the season as Mizzou continues to find new ways to improve exit patterns so stay tuned for updates to the outbound plan. Being a responsible pedestrian and crossing at cross-walks and following the instructions of law enforcement will help to improve outbound traffic.
Keep in mind, some lots surrounding Memorial Stadium may be re-routed to avoid areas of heavier congestion and to help exit all of the vehicles as quickly as possible. The department of athletics urges that all Mizzou fans pay attention to road signs when exiting the lots for any further instructions
