Pearson Produces as Mizzou Falls 5-1 to Milwaukee

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Senior outfielder Logan Pearson (Bentonville, Ark.) had a productive day at the dish, tallying two doubles, three hits, and scoring the only run for the Tigers (10-3) as Mizzou fell, 5-1, to Milwaukee (7-3) on Saturday afternoon (March 7) at Taylor Stadium. Freshman Tanner Houck (Collinsville, Ill.) notched a career-best nine strikeouts as he was charged with his first collegiate loss.

Mizzou started the scoring in the second inning, cashing in on a leadoff double from Pearson who scored two batters later for a 1-0 lead. The lead did not last long, though, as Milwaukee scored the following frame thanks to a one-out triple from Luke Meeteer to tie the game.

The Panthers then took the lead in the fifth, again starting with a one-out triple but this time off the bat of Daulton Varsho. He scored as he beat a throw from Ryan Howard (St. Charles, Mo.) on a grounder off the bat of Eric Solberg. After three more hits in succession Milwaukee, the lead was pushed to 5-1 through the end of the fifth. Pearson led off the bottom of the seventh with a double, his second of the game and third hit of the contest. He reached third on a Trey Harris (Powder Springs, Ga.) flyout, but was left stranded to end the inning as the game went into its final two frames.

Andrew Schwaab (St. Charles, Mo.) entered to pitch the eighth, taking over for the freshman Houck, getting four outs before being lifted in favor of Austin Tribby (Springfield, Mo.) in the ninth. The two relievers did not allow a run.
