Postgame Quotes
Mizzou vs. Ole Miss
Mizzou Head Coach Robin Pingeton
Opening Statement...
"I just thought our kids were really locked in and we were in attack mode. We knew on the defensive end; we thought we could take advantage of some opportunities to double-in on the post and make it hard and make them try and shoot from the perimeter. Out of the gates, the first eight minutes, we did a really nice job on the boards. The second two media timeouts they made a run at us on the board. No. 32, Faleru, is one heck of an athlete. I though collectively, our players were locked in, coming off of a tough loss on the road at Alabama. I was really proud of the energy that we brought to the court, along with the focus and the fight."
On getting the whole team involved offensively...
"I really liked our ball movement. I thought we did a nice job of spreading things out offensively. I thought or motion probably looked better than anything that we were doing. I thought we were doing a nice job of making that extra pass. I thought we did a good job of trying to attack off the bounce. They were really trying to force us off that 3-point line. Just an attack mentality and getting to the free throw line I thought was huge for us. Michelle Hudyn actually had some really big minutes for us When Jordan (Frericks) was out with some foul trouble in the first half. I though Bree Fowler came in and you felt a bounce about her and some energy. I thought she had some really good minutes as well."
On senior Morgan Eye's performance...
"She is a warrior and she knows her time is limited. If we want to have a chance to get to some sort postseason on your home court, you know the games are dwindling. She came out with great focus and didn't force the action. (She) looked confident. I thought her floor game and leadership and how she was communicating with her teammates, defensively, understanding the gameplan and being assignment for correct, sticking her nose in there for some deflections and rebounds. And then she certainly did what Mo does well and that's shoot the ball."
Sophomore Guard Lindsey Cunningham
On the team's offensive effort in Sunday's game...
"We knew Ole Miss was going to get up and guard us hard and that we weren't going to get open on our own and that is something that Coach has been stressing a lot is getting each other open. When they are up guarding you hard and you are able to screen, you are able to get yourself open. That shows a lot that we are not a very selfish team. We know we have to give up the ball and that worked out for us tonight."
On the bounce-back win from the Alabama loss on Thursday...
"That was sickening, honestly. It is what you have to do though. You can't dwell on it for too long. There were things that we had to carry over from that game into this game to help us win today. It was a terrible loss, but you have to move on and get the next one."
On some of the aspects of the game at Alabama that were carried over this game...
"I think one of the biggest things was wanting the ball and to be the person that is shooting and wanting to make that shot when you take it, especially in tough times. That shows a lot about each player growing up and maturing. I think that is what we did tonight."
Sophomore Forward, Sierra Michaelis
On playing defense during Ole Miss's second and third chance scoring opportunities... "We knew No. 32 (Falreu) was a beast on the boards and we had to do our best to box her out and not let her get a second chance. Once they get the rebound, we have to get back on defense and just get the next kill."
On her big week offensively...
"I think I just needed to talk with Coach and we talked and she gave me a book. I can't remember the name of it right now. I think the book was amazing and I really recommend the book. Knowing that I am playing for a bigger purpose and that it is an audience of one and stuff like that."
On setting a better offensive tone in the first half this game...
"Like Lindsey said, the Alabama game was a tough loss for us and we watched film and we had a lot of learning points from film. We had a pretty good practice the next day and we had to continue to carry it on to Ole Miss."
Ole Miss Head Coach Matt Insell
Opening Statement...
"Great win for Missouri, all the credit to Robin and her team. I have a lot of respect for Robin, she does a great job. Our programs are very similar in that both of us are grinding every day to continue to build a program, so I have a lot of respect for her. We did not play very well the first half, Missouri played off of us and made us shoot jump shots. We have got to play with more confidence and our young kids did not do that today."
On the team's shooting today...
"It's real bizarre. It's not surprising, I've got some babies out there. I know everybody says they ought to be sophomores this time of year, but mentally they are not. A'Queen Hayes is playing the point like a sophomore, but thinking in the game they are not. When things go wrong, they don't know how to handle that. That's one thing that I have been really getting after them about. We've got to push through walls. We're missing two-foot shots, we're missing layups. We do a lot of things that good teams do. We offensive rebound, we push-tempo at times, we pressure the defense at times, we rebound the defensive end. I don't think many teams have got double-figure offensive boards on us in this league. That's hard to do because we're not very big. We do a lot of very good things, but we don't shoot the ball well."
On today's shot selection... "We tried to penetrate the rim, but it's like they put a brick wall up there...Our offense drives the ball and kicks, Mizzou eliminated the drive. I told the team at halftime, I don't care if you're open, shoot the thing."
