Tigers finish fall schedule, return to action in Hawai'i Invite in January
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – In the third and final day of competition at the Midwest Blast, Mizzou Tennis dropped a singles match to Notre Dame, 5-1. The Tigers finished the weekend with three losses in doubles play, two losses in singles play and a split in a singles match against Purdue on Thursday.
After dropping the first set, Junior Bea Machado Santos (Lisbon, Portugal) roared back to win the next two sets and pick up the sole victory of the day for Mizzou, 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (12-10), over Allison Miller. It was the second victory of the weekend of Machado Santos, after teaming up with sophomore Clare Raney (Atlanta, Ga.) to defeat Miller and Brooke Broda of Notre Dame in a doubles match on Thursday.
Junior Brianna Lashway (Bradenton, Fla.) won the first set in her match with Rachel Chong, before falling in the second and third set, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2.
After completing the Midwest Blast, Mizzou will now be off until the start of its spring schedule, which begins January 5 in Maui, Hawai'i at the Hawai'I Invite. The Tigers begin the home portion of their schedule on January 23 against Bradley at the Mizzou Tennis Complex.
