Cunningham Earns Second Straight SEC Freshman of the Week Honor

True freshman set school record with 42 points in fourth career game
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Freshman guard Sophie Cunningham (Columbia, Mo.) earned her second consecutive Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week honor, it was announced Tuesday. Cunningham established a new single-game school record with 42 points in Mizzou's victory over Wake Forest on Sunday evening at Mizzou Arena. In just her fourth career game, she broke the previous scoring record of 41 points by Renee Kelly that had stood since Jan. 25, 1986 vs. Oklahoma at the Hearnes Center.
For the week, Cunningham averaged 26.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.5 steals per game. The 42 points by Cunningham on Sunday are the most scored in an NCAA Division I game this season and the most in the SEC by 13 points.
Cunningham is tied for the SEC-lead in scoring (21.5), ranks third in field goal percentage (63.6) and 3-point field goal percentage (56.3), is tied for third in steals (2.8) and sixth in free throw percentage (87.5).
Against Wake Forest, Cunningham went 13-for-18 from the field, 6-for-8 from 3-point range and 10-for-12 from the foul line in 33 minutes. She added eight rebounds, four assists and three steals. In the first half, Cunningham scored 25 points, going 9-for-10 from the field and 4-for-5 from long range during the first 20 minutes. In both the second and fourth quarters, she scored 14 points.
