Tigers post two shutouts Friday at University Field
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Softball wrapped up its Fall Ball schedule at University Field on Friday with two huge offensive wins. The Tigers topped Crowder College in Game One, 15-0 and carried their momentum into Game Two to take the victory over University of Central Missouri, 24-0.
The Tigers came out swinging in Game One, tallying six of their 15 runs in the first inning, including a 2-run shot by senior OF Emily Crane (Troy, Mo.) Crane would continue to dominate at the plate with another homer in the top of the seventh. She would end the game 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs and three runs.
Senior IF Sami Fagan (Dunnellon, Fla.) also took a trip over the fences with a deep three-run homer in the top of the sixth.
Junior RHP Tori Finucane (Germantown, Md.) started on the mound for the Tigers, pitching 5.0 innings with four strikeouts, one hit and a walk. Junior RHP Cheyenne Baxter (Norborne, Mo.) closed out the game with four strikeouts of her own to seal the Tigers' shutout.
Freshman OF Regan Nash (Platte City, Mo.) showed her speed snagging four stolen bases to add to her two hits in the game.
It was all about the pitching to start Game Two as sophomore LHP Paige Lowary (Dallas Center, Iowa) handled the first nine outs of the game with nine strikeouts. She would go on to record three more strikeouts on the night, bringing her total to 12.
The offense backed up Lowary with an explosive second inning. OF/SS Taylor Gadbois (Maryville, Mo.) and Fagan both recorded doubles with 2 RBIs apiece. Junior C/1B Kirsten Mack (Riverside, Calif.) blasted the ball for a three-run home run, capping the Tigers' runs at nine in the second.
Junior C/UT Chloe Rathburn (Mission Viejo, Calif.) ripped a two-run home run to cap off the Tigers' impressive display at the plate.
