COLUMBIA, Mo. – Team Black used a three-run second inning to pull away to a win in game two of Mizzou Baseball's Fall World Series on Thursday night (Oct. 8) at Taylor Stadium. Sophomore Brett Bond delivered a big two-out, two-run single to CF to cap off the three run inning. That was all the offense Black needed to back a sensational start by senior Austin Tribby, who went 5.0 innings, striking out seven while allowing just one run on four hits in the win.
Black threatened to score in the first inning after a leadoff double to right center by Kirby McGuire. But McClain got out of the jam early thanks to a pair of strikeouts of Jake Ring and Brett Bond. Black had another chance to score in the top of the second and didn't miss its chance. Matt Feldt laced a no-out double into right center to score a run and Bond atoned for his strikeout in the first with a big, two-out, two-run single to give Black a 3-0 lead through 1.5 innings.
Tribby took to the hill in the bottom of the second and got a pair of strikeouts in a dominant frame. Grey threatened to get to him in the third after back-to-back one-out hits from Ryan Howard and Johnny Balsamo, but Tribby struck out Conner Brumfield looking and got Zach Lavy to swing through strike three to end the threat.
Grey got a run in the fourth on a Balsamo single to score Chris Akmon, who drew a one-out walk earlier in the frame. But Grey was unable to scratch anymore runs across. Grey threatened again in the fifth after a leadoff double by Lavy. Grey eventually put runners on second and third with two outs for Howard, but Tribby sat him down on strikes to end the threat, preserving a 3-1 lead.
Ty Shoaff came on in relief and tossed a shutout sixth inning and Black added another run on a Ring sacrifice fly in the bottom of the frame. Shoaff came back on in the seventh and tossed another shutout frame to seal the game.
