SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Tigers faced off against a stacked field on Friday (October 2), taking on nine of the top-ranked teams in the country during the Joe Piane Notre Dame Cross Country Invitational. The women placed 15th in the field behind an impressive top-20 finish by sophomore Karissa Schweizer, while the men were 16th in the team field.
WOMEN
For the third consecutive meet this season, Schweizer led the charge for the Tiger women, timing through with a new PR of 16:59.30 on the 5k cross country course. In a field which boasted four of the top 25-ranked teams in the country, including current No. 1-ranked New Mexico, Schweizer showed, once again, why she is one of the top young distance runners in the country. From the gun, she tucked in off the shoulders of the lead pack, maintaining through the first half of the race until the pack began to break. She crossed in 18th overall, third out of the SEC teams and first for the Midwest Regional.
Next across the line for the black and gold was junior Teylar Adelsberger, followed by freshman Kelli Jackson, junior Nicole Mello, and sophomore Jamie Kempfer closed out the Tigers' scorers.
