Tigers mash seven total home runs in the two games
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Softball continued its offensive tear with two big victories Friday at University Field. The Tigers started off the day with a 31-1 victory over Heartland Community College and finished up with a 7-1 triumph against Grand View in Game Two.
Game One was pure domination for the Tigers, accumulating 31 runs on 34 hits against Heartland. Among those 34 hits were 14 extra base hits and five home runs. Senior IF Sami Fagan (Dunnellon, Fla.) led the way for Mizzou, going 4-for-6 with six RBIs, a triple and two home runs. Fagan has now hit five home runs so far this Fall season and at least one in each of her four games played.
Junior INF Natalie Fleming (Silex, Mo.) paced the Tigers in hits and added two home runs of her own, going 6-for-7 with five RBIs.
Mizzou found another gear on the base paths, swiping seven bases on the day. Senior OF/SS Taylor Gadbois (Maryville, Mo.) continued her impressive display of speed this Fall, adding two more stolen bases to her resume. She now has five in the Tigers' six Fall games.
The pitching duties were split between Freshman RHP Daniele Baumgartner (Mexico, Mo.) and junior RHP Tori Finucane (Germantown, Md.). Baumgartner tossed 4.0 innings, giving up just one earned run on four hits while striking out one. Finucane finished Game One, pitching 3.0 innings of shutout ball with six strikeouts. She now has 20 strikeouts in 13.0 Fall innings.
Game Two saw the offense fall back to earth a bit, scoring seven runs on nine hits. Sophomore INF Amanda Sanchez (West Covina, Calif.) hit two home runs, this coming after she went deep in Game One, giving her three home runs this fall.
Sophomore LHP Paige Lowary (Dallas Center, Iowa) was dominant in the circle for Mizzou, striking out eight batters in 4.0 innings of work. Junior RHP Cheyenne Baxter (Norborne, Mo.) rounded out Game Two, pitching a scoreless inning with two strikeouts.
