COLUMBIA, Mo.- Shutout pitching from freshman P Tori Finucane (Germantown, Md.) and extra-base hits from junior 3B/C Angela Randazzo (Poway, Calif.) and junior IF Corrin Genovese (East Amherst, N.Y.) set the tone, as No. 15 Mizzou Softball (36-12) defeated intra-state foe Missouri State, 5-0, on Wednesday at University Field.
Genovese laced a double down the left field line to score freshman IF/OF Kelli Schkade (Albany, Texas) to give Mizzou a 1-0 lead in the third inning. The run proved to be all the Tigers needed, but they did not stop there. Both Genovese and Randazzo batted 2-for-3, with the latter Tiger's first hit, a triple to right field, scoring one run in the fourth inning for a 2-0 lead.
Following Randazzo's three-bag hit, junior 1B Kelsea Roth (Yorba Linda, Calif.) executed a squeeze bunt perfectly to allow Randazzo to slide home safely for a 3-0 advantage. The Tigers made it 4-0 in the fifth inning after redshirt sophomore OF Taylor Gadbois (Maryville, Mo.) singled and stole to second base, followed by a groundout and wild pitch.
Randazzo launched her sixth home run of the season deep over the left center field wall in the bottom of the sixth to extend the Tigers' lead to 5-0. Randazzo finished the night with two RBI to lead the Tigers.
Finucane (17-5) continued to shine for Mizzou, pitching 7.0 innings with only three hits allowed and five strikeouts.
With the victory over Missouri State (25-22), Mizzou improved to 7-0 against the Bears under head coach Ehren Earleywine.
The Tigers hit the road for Southeastern Conference action, playing at No. 3 Florida from Friday, April 25-Sunday, April 27. Mizzou returns to University Field on April 29 to take on Creighton in a doubleheader (3 p.m./5 p.m.).
