
Tiger Men Fall to Tennessee, Virginia Tech

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Junior Sam Tierney won two events in Mizzou's double dual against No. 15 Virginia Tech and Tennessee Saturday at the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center in Knoxville, Tenn.
The Tigers (4-3, 2-2 SEC) fell to the Hokies, 164-136, and the Volunteers, 175-125.
Tierney swept both breaststroke events to lead the Tigers. The junior notched a time of 54.97 in the 100 breast and 1:59.42 in the 200 breast to edge out teammate junior Igor Kozlovskij in both races. Kozlovskij recorded a time of 55.49 in the 100 breast and 2:01.98 in the 200 breast to take second in both events.
In the diving well, senior David Bonuchi earned an easy win on the 3-meter springboard with a season high score of 427.60, more than 42 points ahead of the next finisher.
Sophomore Clark Thomas placed second on the 1-meter with a tally of 329.80 and third on the 3-meter with 346.85 points.
Junior Mack Darragh added a pair of runner-up finishes on the day. He took second in both the 200 fly (1:49.58) and 200 IM 1:51.26.
In the distance events, junior Eegan Groome earned finishes of second and third. He placed second in the 500 free with a time of 4:33.46 and was third in the 1,000 free after a swim of 9:28.31.
Three other Tigers claimed third-place finishes during the meet: junior Andrew Phillips in the 200 free (1:40.66), sophomore Max in the 100 free (45.35) and freshman Carter Griffin in the 200 back (1:47.54).
Missouri returns to the pool on Saturday, Jan. 18 when the team travels to Iowa City, Iowa to face Illinois, Indiana and Iowa at 11 a.m.
