Mizzou Suffers 6-1 Loss to LSU

BATON ROUGE, La. - The Mizzou tennis team suffered a 6-1 loss at the hands of LSU on Saturday afternoon at the W.T. "Dub" Robinson Stadium in Baton Rouge, La. The Mizzou Tigers fell to 7-6 overall and 1-5 in Southeastern Conference play, while the LSU Tigers improved to 8-8 and 1-5.
LSU took the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 action after Mizzou's top team of junior Cierra Gaytan-Leach and sophomore Alex Clark ousted LSU's Mary Jeremiah and Ariel Morton, 8-6. LSU picked up an 8-4 win at No. 3 as Kaitlin Burns and Ella Taylor defeated sophomore Elisha Gabb and freshman Madison Rhyner. The home Tigers clinched the doubles point when Ebie Wilson and Keri Frankenberger posted an 8-6 win over senior Maria Christensen and junior Rachel Stuhlmann.
LSU kicked off singles play with a win at No. 1 action, where Burns recorded a 6-0, 6-1 win over Gaytan-Leach. At No. 3 play, Christensen fell to Taylor, 6-1, 6-1, while Rhyner suffered a 6-2, 6-4 loss to Wilson to clinch the win for LSU. The home team also earned a victory at No. 4, where Morton defeated Gabb, 6-4, 6-4.
At No. 2 play, Stuhlmann came back after dropping the second set to post a 6-2, 2-6, 1-0 (10-7) victory over Jeremiah. Clark's match at No. 3 action came down to a third set tiebreak but the sophomore ultimately fell, 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 1-0 (10-7).
Missouri returns home to host No. 3 Texas A&M on Friday, March 22 at 5 p.m.
