Mizzou Basketball Post Game Notes
Mizzou improved to 3-0 on the season, while Nicholls State falls to 0-2.
The Tigers are now 2-0 all-time against the Colonels.
The victory was Missouri's 68th consecutive against a non-conference opponent, dating back to November of 2005.
Senior Alex Oriakhi posted his second consecutive double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. The point output was just one off his career high.
Oriahki has grabbed at least 10 rebounds in all three of Mizzou's games this season. He is the first Tiger to record double-digit rebounds in the first three games of the season since Malcolm Thomas in 1983-84. He is also the first Tiger to grab at least 10 boards in three consecutive games since Ricardo Ratliffe accomplished the feat in four straight games early in the 2010-11 season (10 vs. North Florida, 12 vs. Wyoming, 14 vs. La Salle and 10 vs. Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
Junior Earnest Ross scored 16 points to reach double figures for the second time in three games this season.
Senior Laurence Bowers reached double figures for the third time in as many games with 12 points against Nicholls State.
Senior Keion Bell also reached double figures with 14 points. It marks his first career double figure output as a Tiger.
Mizzou shot 32 free throws during the contest. They are now averaging 31.7 free throw attempts per game. Last season, the team's single-game high was 31, which was accomplished three times.
Ross made three 3-pointers during the game. He entered the contest with just one 3-point make in Mizzou's first two games.
Mizzou's hanging its hat on its defense early in 2012-13. The Tigers are holding opponents to 34 percent shooting from the floor and just 59.0 ppg. Missouri is also averaging 49 rebounds per game and own a +26 advantage on the offensive glass.
