Tigers Conclude Action at Indiana Invitational

Bloomington, Ind. - The Missouri tennis team kicked off its spring schedule at Indiana's adidas IU Winter Invitational Jan. 14-16 in Bloomington, Ind. Sophomore Rachel Stuhlmann went 3-0 in singles action during the weekend, earning the Gold Draw title. Senior Jamie Mera also posted a perfect 3-0 record during the Invite.
"I'm glad we had the opportunity to play these matches this weekend, we needed the competition and match play," Head Coach Sasha Schmid said. "We learned a lot this weekend. We need to keep working hard and improving with each match we play. We are looking forward to a focused week of practice as we prepare for our first dual match of the season next weekend."
On day one in the Gold Singles Draw, sophomore Rachel Stuhlmann defeated Indiana's Shannon Murdy, 6-3, 6-4. Senior Nina Pantic, competing in the Crimson Draw, won the first set over Indiana's No. 79 Carolyn Chupa Pantic before falling 3-6, 1-0 (10-8). Additionally, in the Blue Singles Draw, freshman Alex Clark earned a 1-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-8) win over Louisville's Manuela Velasquez.
In round one of Red Doubles Draw, junior Maria Christensen and Stuhlmann defeated Indiana's Sophie Garre and Shannon Murdy, 8-6, while Clark and senior Jamie Mera earned an 8-5 win over Indiana's Ariel Beckerman and Diana Kyllman. The team of Christensen and junior Annemijn Koenen also put away Marquette's Ali Dawson and Vanessa Foltinger, 8-0.
Both Stuhlmann and Mera earned victories in day two action of the Gold Singles Draw. Stuhlmann defeated Louisville's Ameilia Harris, 6-2, 6-2, while Mera earned a 6-3, 6-3 win over Kayla Fujimoto of Indiana.
In the Red Draw, Chiaf posted a 6-3, 6-0 win over Foltinger, while Clark came out ahead, 4-6, 6-3, 6-10, 1-0 (10-6), against Sarah Miller of Louisville in the Blue Draw.
In second day Red Doubles Draw action, Christensen and Koenen earned a win Beckerman and Kyllman, 8-1, while Clark and Mera bested Dawson and Foltinger, 9-8 (10-5).
The Tigers closed out play on Monday as four players were victorious in singles action. Mera defeated Murdy, 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-7), Pantic earned a 6-4, 6-0 win over Kyllmann, Koenen beat Dawson 3-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-4) and Stuhlmann defeated Foltinger, 6-2, 6-0.
Mizzou returns to the court on Jan. 22 as the team travels to Notre Dame for a dual match.
