
Baseball Falls to SIU-E, 7-2

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Mizzou baseball team fell to SIU-Edwardsville, 7-2, Wednesday night (April 13) at Taylor Stadium. The loss drops Mizzou to 13-20 overall this season. Both Eric Garcia and Scott Sommerfeld tallied multi-hit nights for the Tigers, who posted just seven hits in the game while being out-hit, 14-7. Junior reliever Dusty Ross was tagged with the loss after giving up the go-ahead run in the seventh inning. SIU-E then tagged on four insurance runs in the ninth.
Sophomore Eric Anderson started the game for the Tigers and threw 4.0 innings, allowing just four hits and two earned runs while striking out two. It was just his second start since coming off of shoulder surgery last season. His 4.0 innings of work and 54 pitches were all highs for him since recovering from the surgery. Brad Buehler also threw 2.0 innings of scoreless baseball in relief of Anderson, allowing four hits and striking out two.
At the plate, Mizzou was led by Sommerfeld, who went 2-4 with an RBI. Garcia, hitting leadoff for the first time this season, went 2-4, extending his hit streak to four games. Conner Mach went 0-3 at the plate with an RBI on a sacrifice fly and he also scored a run. Blake Brown scored the Tigers' other run. Also, freshman infielder CJ Jarvis made his first career start in the game as the Tigers' starting third baseman.
SIU-E's Dustin Quattrocchi earned the win after throwing the final 4.0 innings, allowing just three hits and striking out three. He did not give up an earned run in the outing.
