
Mizzou Falls to Texas, 79-66

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The University of Missouri women's basketball team suffered a 79-66 loss to the Texas Longhorns in the first round of the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship Tuesday evening in Kansas City. With the loss, the Tigers end the 2010-11 campaign with a 13-18 record.
Senior RaeShara Brown led four Tigers in double figures with 18 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and three steals. She was joined by senior Shakara Jones, who had 14, junior Christine Flores, who had 13, and sophomore Sydney Crafton, who added 10.
The Longhorns came out of the gate hot on the offensive end, quickly running out to a 20-10 advantage with 12:44 left in the opening frame. Six straight points from Texas' Kathleen Nash, including back-to-back threes, helped Texas increase its lead to 32-15 at the 8:39 mark.
Mizzou tried to battle back over the next five minutes, and eventually cut the Longhorn's advantage to 10, 41-31, when sophomore Sydney Crafton drilled a three-pointer with 3:56 left in the first.
A jumper from senior Shakara Jones with 1:41 remaining put the score at 43-33 but Texas used a jumper from Yvonne Anderson and a three-point play from Kathleen Nash to enter the break on top 48-33.
The Tigers opened the second half with a fourth-chance layup from Brown and then used a free throw from Flores and a trey from Brown to pull within nine, 48-39, less than two minutes into the frame.
Brown nailed another three for a 50-42 game a minute later but Texas responded with eight straight points to put the Longhorns back up 16, 58-42, and 15:10 remaining in the contest.
Texas maintained a comfortable lead over most of the second half but the Tigers cut their deficit back to 10, 76-66, after Flores made a layup with 1:47 left. The Longhorns hit their free throws down the stretch to earn the 79-66 victory.
The Longhorns outrebounded the Tigers 44-26, including 18-7 in offensive boards.
Kat Nash led four Texas players in double figures with 16 points.
