Columbia, Mo.- The Mizzou Women's basketball team extended its winning streak to five after a 92-62 win over the raiders of Wright State. In a game where the entire roster saw the floor, Senior Christine Flores led the team with 26 points despite playing only 21 minutes, her fewest of the season. Freshmen Kyley Simmons and Bree Fowler also added to the Tiger's win, both recording career-highs in scoring. This is the first time Mizzou has been 5-0 since the 1997-98 season.
The first half was a hard fought back-and-forth game for both the Tigers and the Raiders with both teams already having four turnovers going into a timeout with 11 minutes left. The Tigers managed to scrape out an 18-15 lead after coming out of the timeout. It was all Mizzou after that, with the Tigers going on a 17-8 run to take a 35-23 lead late in the first half. The Tigers dominated the Raiders in the paint with 16 points to the Raider's eight points. The women on the Mizzou basketball team also combined to have five blocks while holding Wright State blockless as the first half ended.
Mizzou went into halftime leading the Wright State Raiders 37-29. Simmons led the Tigers with eight points surpassing her previous career-high of six in the first half alone. Senior BreAnna Brock was a major asset to the Tigers under the net, swatting three blocks and six rebounds as the first half drew to a close.
The Raiders and Tigers traded baskets for the first few minutes of the second half. At the 14:09 mark, senior forward Christine Flores hit a three pointer that sparked a Mizzou run, cushioning the Tigers lead. With just under eight minutes to play in the game, the Tigers held a cozy 23-point lead by a score of 74 to 51. The next 25 minutes of play were close, but the Tigers secured a 92-62 win over the Raiders.
The Mizzou Women's Basketball team will be back in action December 3rd at Mizzou Arena when they host Northwestern in the Big 10/Big 12 Challenge. The game continues Mizzou's eight-game homestand.
