COLUMBIA, Mo. - The University of Missouri soccer team concluded the non-conference portion of its schedule with a 4-0 victory over SIUE Friday night at Walton Stadium. The win improved Mizzou's record to 10-5 overall, while the Cougars fell to 3-6-1.
The victory also marked the end of one of the most successful non-conference campaigns in Mizzou history. The Tigers finished with a 9-2 non-conference record, for a winning percentage of .909, which is the highest in school history. The 2007 squad held the previous record a winning percentage of .889, going 8-1.
Mizzou's four goals came from four different sources. Senior Kelsey Blincow opened scoring two minutes into the game off a penalty kick for her third goal of the season.
In the 28th minute, sophomore Alyssa Diggs played a long pass up to classmate Danielle Nottingham, who dribbled into the box and beat the Cougar goalkeeper for her third tally of the year.
Freshman Abi Raymer also notched her third goal of the season when she scored Mizzou's third goal of the game in the 58th minute off an assist from fellow freshman Kaysie Clark. The Tigers closed out scoring in the 62nd minute when senior Kendra Collins headed home a corner knick from Blincow to record her first goal of the season.
The Missouri defense, led by Missourians, juniors Jessica Greer and Allison Hu and senior Mallory Stipetich, earned its eighth shutout of the season, which ranks as the second-most shutouts in a season.
The Tigers continue Big 12 Conference play on the road in Waco, Texas, on Friday, Oct. 14 at Baylor. Missouri then takes on Oklahoma in Norman, Okla., on Sunday, Oct. 16 in a contest nationally televised on ESPNU.
