
Mizzou falls at Texas Tech, 63-56

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Lady Raiders outscored the University of Missouri women's basketball team 37-18 in the second half to claim a 63-56 win Wednesday night in Lubbock, Texas. The loss dropped Mizzou's record to 9-7 and 1-1 in Big 12 play while the Lady Raiders improved to 15-1 overall and 2-0 in conference action.
The Tigers had a 38-26 lead at the half but neither team shot particularly well in the opening minutes of the second. The Lady Raiders cut Mizzou's lead to eight, 45-37, after Christine Hyde converted two free throws with 10:58 left in the game.
Texas Tech came roaring with an 8-0 to take its first lead of the contest, 51-50, after Kierra Mallard hit a layup with 3:14 on the clock. The Lady Raiders used free throws the rest of the way to claim the 63-56 game.
Mizzou shot just 19.2 percent (5-26) in the second half and committed 26 turnovers in the game.
The teams traded baskets in the first minute and a half before the Tigers ran off nine straight points, including six by Otote on two three-pointers, for an 11-2 Missouri lead with 16:16 on the clock.
Texas Tech came back to tie the score at 13-13 but Crafton hit back-to-back shots for a 17-13 game with 9:04 left in the first half. A basket from Casey Morris with 6:37 remaining got the Lady Raiders within one, 20-19, but BreAnna Brock scored five straight points for a 25-19 lead two minutes later.
Another three-pointer from Otote grew Missouri's lead to 10, 32-22, with 2:20 on the clock. With the Tigers still ahead by 10, 36-26, Jones drove down the court and hit a layup as the buzzer sounded to send Mizzou into the break on top by 12, 38-24. Missouri shot 57.1 percent in the first half while Texas Tech connected on just 32.1 percent of its shots.
Mizzou return to Mizzou Arena on Saturday, Jan. 15 for an 11 a.m. game against the No. 7/5 Texas A&M Aggies. The game will be televised live on FSN with Brenda VanLangen calling the action and Debbie Antonelli serving as color analyst.
