Mizzou Basketball Post Game Notes
January 12, 2011 vs. Nebraska - Mizzou Arena
Mizzou 77, Nebraska 69
Postgame Notes
- The win for their Tigers is their 11th straight home win to open the season after going a perfect 10-0 in non-conference play. In fact, Mizzou is nearly unblemished at home since the end of the 2007-08 campaign, winning 46 of its last 48 home games.
- The win also improves Mizzou to 13-2 all-time in Big 12 home openers. The win is also the Tigers' fourth-straight win in a Big 12 home opener. It is the Tigers' fourth-straight regular season win over the Huskers as well and snapped the Huskers' 11-game win streak.
- The win also improves the Tigers to 9-0 in games following a loss in Big 12 play since the 2008-09 campaign. Mizzou has not lost back-to-back league games (in the same season) during that span.
- The win is the Tigers' 69th over the last three years, the seventh-best mark in the country during that span. The win draws the Tigers even with last year's national runner-up, Butler.
- Both teams shot 25-of-59 (42-percent) from the floor in the game and both teams connected on six 3-pointers, but the difference proved to be Mizzou's ability to get to the free throw line. The Tigers took 30 foul shots and made 21 while Nebraska attempted just 16 free throws, making 13.
- Marcus Denmon finished with a game-high 27 points, good for his seventh 20-point outing of the season and first in three games. Denmon has now scored in double figures in 14 straight games. The 27 points on Wednesday matched his career-best, which was originally set against Georgetown back in November.
- Denmon, Laurence Bowers and Ricardo Ratliffe shot 18-of-32 (56-percent) from the floor for 51 points while the rest of the team connected on just 7-of-27 shots (26-percent).
- Mizzou assisted on 14 of 25 field goals and turned the ball over only nine times. Conversely, Mizzou forced 15 NU turnovers - converting those into 19 points - while limiting Nebraska to a 0.80 assist-to-turnover margin.
- Mizzou had 10 steals on the 15 Husker turnovers, highlighted by four from Ricky Kreklow, a career-best.
- The nine Mizzou turnovers in the game is the Tigers' second-lowest total of the season, trailing only the six committed against La Salle on Nov. 25. In fact, Mizzou has just 18 turnovers in its last two games, its best over a two-game span this season. Mizzou had 21 alone in its win over North Alabama before the current streak.
First Half Notes
- Junior Marcus Denmon led all scorers in the first with 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting, including 4-of-4 from deep. Denmon shot 62.5-percent in the first while the rest of the team struggled, connecting on just 33.3-percent of its shots. The rest of the team's struggles came from deep and they connected on just 1-of-8 attempts.
- Denmon connected on four 3-pointers in the first half. No other player from either team had more than three field goals in the first half. At one point, Denmon was outscoring the entire Nebraska team, 14-13.
- Mizzou held Nebraska to just 28 points in the first half, marking the least first half points by a Tiger opponent in the last four games. The Tigers held NU to just 34-percent shooting, including 2-of-10 from 3-point range. The 34-percent shooting average for the Huskers was their worst first half clip in the last eight games.
- The Tiger backcourt combined for 25 of the Tigers' 36 points in the first half.
