COLUMBIA, Mo.- - Missouri fell to No. 1 Texas by a score of 20-11 on Sunday as the Longhorns finished off a three-game sweep of MU. The Tigers closed the regular season with a record of 27-25 and 10-16 in the Big 12 Conference.
Mizzou and Texas will meet again on Wednesday as they open play in the Big 12 Conference Championships in Oklahoma City, Okla. The complete schedule for the tournament will be announced later tonight.
Texas (46-8, 24-3 Big 12) jumped out to a 14-0 lead after five innings as it put together a five-run third inning and a six-run fourth, in addition to a run in second inning and two in the fifth.
Missouri cut into the lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, which included a solo home run by senior Aaron Senne. Senne added his second homer of the day with a three-run shot as part of a six-run seventh inning. Freshman Eric Garcia added a solo home run in the seventh as the Tigers cut the lead to 14-8.
The Longhorns plated six in the top of the ninth before MU scored three times in its half of the ninth.
Senne finished 3-for-5 with five RBI and two runs scored in the final regular season game of this Tiger career. Garcia had two hits, as did freshman Dane Opel. Senne's two home runs give him 42 for his career, which puts him in a tie for third place on MU's career homers list.
Texas had two players - Cohl Walla and Cameron Rupp - record four hits on Sunday and Kevin Lusson had six RBI. The Longhorns had four homers in the game.
