
Texas Takes Opener with Mizzou

COLUMBIA, Mo.- - Mizzou got solo home runs from senior Aaron Senne and sophomore Conner Mach, but came up short of No. 1 Texas, 5-2, on Friday night in the opener of a three-game series at Taylor Stadium.
The Tigers are now 27-23 on the season and 10-14 in the Big 12, while UT improves to 44-8 overall and 22-1 in the conference.
Texas scored the game's first run on an RBI double from Kevin Keyes in the bottom of the first inning. The Longhorns stretched the lead to five with a four-run top of the fourth inning, which included RBI hits from Jonathan Walsh and Jordan Etier.
The Tigers got on the board as Senne homered to lead off the bottom of the fourth inning. The home run was his 14th of the season, setting a new career high for home runs in a season for Senne.
Mach led off the Tigers' half of the sixth inning by connecting on his second home run of the season, pulling Mizzou to within three at 5-2.
Senne added singles in the first and sixth innings to finish 3-for-4 on the night. Junior Brett Nicholas also had three hits in the game and freshman Eric Garcia was 2-for-4. Junior Jonah Schmidt was hitless in the game, snapping his nine-game hitting streak.
Junior Nick Tepesch started on the mound for Mizzou and struck out six in 6.1 innings pitched. He fell to 5-6 on the year.
Texas starter Taylor Jungmann had nine strikeouts in seven innings of work and improved to 6-2, while Chance Ruffin recorded strikeouts for all six of his outs recorded in two innings pitched in relief to pick up his 13th save of the season.
Missouri and Texas will continue the series at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The two members of the Tigers' senior season - Aaron Senne and Michael Liberto - will be honored on the field prior to the game.
