COLUMBIA, Mo. - Junior Nick Tepesch recorded his first career shutout as Missouri defeated Nebraska, 2-0 on Friday in the opener of the three-game series at Taylor Stadium. Tepesch was perfect through the first 4.1 innings, retiring the first 13 Nebraska batters before Kale Kiser's single in the top of the fifth inning.
Tepesch struck out a season-high nine and gave up just five hits to move to 5-5 on the season. He retired the side in order in five innings.
Mizzou (25-22, 8-13 Big 12) scored its first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning when senior Aaron Senne doubled to start the inning and later scored on a sacrifice fly by junior Jonah Schmidt. Schmidt singled in the sixth inning to extend his hitting streak to seven games, which is a career long for him.
Senne extended the Tigers' lead to 2-0 with a home run to lead off the bottom of the sixth inning. The homer was his 13th of the season and the 39th of his career. Senne finished the game 2-for-3 to push his average back over the .400 mark as he is now hitting .403 on the season.
Mizzou has now won seven-straight games against the Cornhuskers. Missouri and Nebraska will continue their series on Saturday, with first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m. at Taylor Stadium.
