
Tigers Defeat Illini at Busch Stadium

ST. LOUIS, Mo.- - Playing in St. Louis' Busch Stadium, the Missouri baseball team picked up a 7-4 victory over Illinois on Wednesday night. The game, which was played with wood bats, was the second in as many years for Mizzou at Busch Stadium and the first against the Illini.
MU improved to 17-11 on the year with the win, while Illinois fell to 12-11.
The Tigers scored the game's first run as senior Aaron Senne singled in the bottom of the first inning and scored on a double by junior Brett Nicholas. Senne's single extended his hitting streak to 13 games. He finished the night 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
Illinios scored four runs in the top of the second inning on four singles, a hit batter, two walks and an error to take a 4-1 advantage. However, the Tigers regained the lead with a three-run third inning, getting an RBI double from freshman Blake Brown and a two-run single from senior Michael Liberto.
The score remained 5-4 until the bottom of the eighth inning when Mizzou loaded the bases the scored a run when junior Ryan Ampleman was hit by a pitch. The Tigers added another run on a sacrifice fly by freshman Eric Garcia.
Missouri used eight pitchers on the night, with the final seven allowing just two hits and no runs in 7.2 innings pitched.
Junior Phil McCormick was the first Tiger out of the bullpen and picked up the victory to move to 4-0 on the year. Juniors Brad Buehler, Ryan Clubb, Kelly Fick, Tyler Clark and Aaron Blunt and sophomore Jeff Emens followed McCormick and each turned in one inning of work allowing no runs and no hits.
Missouri returns to Big 12 Conference play this weekend with a three-game series against Oklahoma in Norman, Okla. Game one between the Tigers and Sooners is set for 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
