Postgame Quotes
Mizzou 56; Kansas 77
March 6, 2010
Missouri Head Coach Mike Anderson
Opening statement...
"Well they are a good, good basketball team. We got up 17-10 and I told my guys, it's Kansas, remember that. Let's give them credit. It seems like every time we made a play they countered with a good play. I'm proud of my guys. It was a tough game."
On Mizzou cutting the Kansas lead to four to begin the second half...
"We really came out strong in the second half, I was proud of my guys. It was one of those games where you can't have too much go wrong and we had some opportunities and we just couldn't cash in on them. It's nothing against our guys. We just couldn't put it all together. This is a ballgame where they came to play."
On the Tigers taking care of the ball and limiting turnovers...
"It was good that we took care of the ball and we really needed to against such a strong opponent. The guys played well and again we need to give Kansas credit. They were making shots, making their free throws, and playing very well."
On moving on to Kansas City and the Big 12 Tournament...
"I told our guys we have new life now. Now it's one and done. The best will survive. We are excited to go to Kansas City and defend the title. Let's have some fun."
Missouri senior forward Keith Ramsey
On the Tigers tough loss to the Jayhawks...
"They're a good team. They got on a break, knocking down layups and shots. We were there the whole game."
On the 16-0 Kansas run to end the first half...
"Guys probably got tired. They're a good team, we knew they were going to make a run, but not a sixteen point run. It would have been okay if it was a little eight point run or something like that, but a double digit run hurt us bad."
Missouri senior guard J.T. Tiller
On Kansas' depth...
"They have very good players. Their depth is very good also. They can give it to a variety of players who can all produce."
On the Tigers' shooting today...
"As you can see we were getting open looks. Everybody knows that on any other night Marcus Denmon would have knocked all those shots down. It was just the luck of the draw today and we just couldn't knock down all of our shots."
On how this game will be remembered...
"We use all of our losses as motivation, we learn from our experiences, and you have got to have short term memory loss. You have got to get ready, and get motivated for the next game."
Missouri senior guard Zaire Taylor
On whether or not a loss to Kansas should be put in perspective...
"No. they are a good team and we are a good team. We can compete with anybody and we can beat anybody in the country. I wouldn't say you have to keep this in perspective. It's not like they're not on another level or skill higher than us, because I don't feel that way. Tonight they were the better team. Tomorrow if we play, they might not be."
Kansas Head Coach, Bill Self
On 16-0 run...
"I think we were pretty sped up early. We had five turnovers and were down 17-10 and then the next 10 minutes we had two more. So at least we got some attempts at the basket and we made a couple of big shots and started getting the ball inside to get some easy baskets. We continued to pound them inside pretty well the whole game.
On playing at Mizzou...
"The final outcome to me is almost irrelevant. It wasn't a 21-point game in my mind. It was with an 11:44 time or something like that a four-point game. It was a very competitive game for the most part of the game for the first 28 minutes and then the last 12 minutes we played very well. It feels good to leave here winning. Last year we were up by 14 at half then got beat, and we talked about that at half time. I guess my talk was so good, we came out and almost gave it away in the first 8 minutes. They didn't even need the whole 20 to cut the lead. The thing that's most impressive from a coach's standpoint is when we're up by 32 -24 and Henry, Taylor, and Collins haven't even scored yet, and Cole hadn't been a factor. I think Brady and Thomas off the bench were all very good."
On Marcus Morris status...
"He's fine. You know he did hit his head hard, but he's fine there is no concussion or anything like that. I've been around him for a while and that's probably the safest place for him to get hit and not get hurt. He's going to be alright I think it scared him more than anything because it was a pretty good hit."
On beating Missouri at its own game...
"I don't look at it that way. The way that Mike plays it's almost like there is 8 starters because he rotates them in quite a bit. The way I look at our team, I feel like we have 8 guys that can start. I feel like that's a little bit of an overrated stat to be honest with you. I do think that our bench kept our starters fresh. I thought when you watched us play out there, you really couldn't tell who our best five players were because I think all contributed in a positive way and I didn't feel like I needed to get the starters back in there. So that to me was the most pleasing thing about our bench play today."
On playing two different Missouri teams today...
"You could say that but you could also say they were playing two Kansas teams too. When they were good we were really bad and when we were good they weren't as good. So there was never a we score, they score, we-score, they-score game. We went off a big run and they'd go off a big run."
