Tigers Fall to Purdue

COLUMBIA, Mo.- - One day after putting up 22 runs against Purdue, the Missouri baseball team found it a little more difficult to score on Wednesday as it fell to Purdue by a score of 6-3 in the final game of a two-game midweek series.
Junior Brett Nicholas had three of Missouri's eight hits on Wednesday. Senior Aaron Senne was 1-for-3, extending his hitting streak to eight games. Senne is now hitting .424 on the season.
Purdue never trailed in the game, taking the lead with a pair of runs in the top of the second inning, with both runs scoring a home run by Cameron Perkins. The Boilermakers added two more runs in the fourth inning, which included a solo homer from Brad Schreiber, then plated one in the fifth.
Perkins had three hits on the day, driving in two runs and scoring a pair of runs.
Junior Jesse Santo drove in the Tigers' first run with a double in the top of the third, extending his hitting steak to five games. The Tigers then scored a run in the seventh on a walk and back-to-back singles to make it a 5-2 lead for the Boilermakers.
The lead went back to four as Purdue scored once in the top of the eighth inning before MU put a run on the board in the eighth when junior Jonah Schmidt was credited with an RBI double on a play where the Purdue first baseman had trouble fielding the pop up the windy conditions at Taylor Stadium.
The loss drops the Tigers to 14-9 on the season, while Purdue is now 12-10 on the season.
Mizzou will open a three-game series against Baylor on Friday at Taylor Stadium. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. and junior Nick Tepesch is scheduled to pitch for the Tigers.
