Missouri vs. Iowa State
2/10/2010
Head Coach Mike Anderson Quotes
On the Tigers' defensive plays...
"I thought right there around the six minute mark when it was 54-54 and Iowa State had the chance to go up, our guys played some inspired basketball. We had some guys that really stepped up, got rebounds, and went to the free throw line, but that wasn't something to talk about. Like you said, our defense was the difference in this game. Shooting can come and go. The shots were there we just couldn't knock them down. We made some plays and that's what you've got to do."
On the play of senior guard J.T. Tiller...
"It starts with J.T.'s defense and his energy. His offense just happens that's what has got to take place with J.T. His energy is contagious, leadership no question about it is huge for our basketball team."
On junior forward Justin Safford...
"He's attacking the glass and he's finishing. There were some plays that we had some momentum and I really thought Justin played great in the second half. His energy was big out there."
On the Baylor game this Saturday...
"It's going to be a huge challenge going down there to Waco. It's a big game. We're going to get these guys ready for a very good ranked basketball team. We've got to shoot the ball better. Sometimes when you have adversity it has an affect on your team. You saw the guys take over the game down the stretch. We're looking forward to Saturday."
On wearing mask...
"I couldn't see out of it. I had to take it off. I didn't get hit or you would have seen me crying. It's all risk in the game so you so you just got to play without fear."
On offensive night...
"It always nice to have a nice offensive night but as long as we win that's all that matters. Having a good offensive night is not something that I base my game on. Coming out there getting deflections and steals and coming out there to do something to help the team win is what I base my game on."
On being asked to score...
"That's something we have to do as senior leaders on this team. The other night we had Kim and Marcus making those shots and just tonight it fell on me to make those shots."
On J.T. Tiller...
"He played huge, when I went out in the first half I kind of felt like I let the team down. But J.T. really picked it up, he was out there playing real well and I was just sitting on the bench smiling saying to myself that's the J.T. I've been waiting to see all season and he really came through huge. "
On struggling throughout...
"We just needed to find that right group to have on the floor. Zaire was playing with a hurt stomach, Keith was playing with a hurt ankle. And without those two it was hard for us to find a rhythm. Then we kind of realized in the last 10 minutes of the game that this was our time, and I think we really stepped up in the last 4 or 5 minutes of the game."
Kim on Iowa State surprising them...
"They didn't surprise us; Iowa State is a really good team. Their record doesn't show how good they are, especially the conference they played everyone tough but Baylor. They are a really good team so they didn't surprise us, we knew that Brackett and Garrett are pros and they are a really well coached team. "
