Mizzou Blows Past UMKC, 72-48

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Four players scored in double figures as the University of Missouri women's basketball team earned a convincing 72-48 win over the UMKC Kangaroos Saturday afternoon at Mizzou Arena. The Tigers improved to 5-4 on the season while the `Roos fell to 3-7.
"I thought the passion we took the court with was really good," Head Coach Robin Pingeton said. "It's fun to see them having some fun out there on the court with smiles and high-fives. We had some tired legs out there but we pushed through that and I thought our effort was really solid. There were a lot of positives out there today."
Senior RaeShara Brown led the Tigers with a game high 18 points to along with eight rebounds and four assists. Junior BreAnna Brock scored a career high 12 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the floor and tied her personal best with six boards. Additionally, sophomore Sydney Crafton posted 11 points and junior Christine Flores added 10.
Mizzou used two straight baskets from Brock to run out to an early 12-2 advantage just over four minutes into the game. In addition to Brock, three other Tigers scored during the early run. The Tigers' offense continued to click as the team grew its lead over the next few minutes. A three-pointer from Brown with 7:02 on the clock gave the home team its biggest lead of the first half, 26-11.
The `Roos responded with six straight points to get back within nine, 26-17, but Brown hit another three to push Mizzou's lead back to 12 with 4:17 remaining in the first half. The two teams played even the rest of the half, with Missouri entering the break on top 36-24.
With the Tigers holding on to a 12-point advantage, 45-33, a layup from Brown kick started a 12-2 run for Mizzou. Brock hit two baskets and juniors Bailey Gee and Flores hit three-pointers nailed three-pointers as Missouri increased its lead to 22, 57-35, with 10:58 left in the contest. After a UMKC bucket, Missouri's advantage then grew to 30 points, 68-38, after an 11-1 run over the next three minutes.
Mizzou outscored the `Roos 40-14 in the paint and 29-10 on points off turnovers.
The Tigers are off until Sunday, Dec. 19 when they host the New Jersey of Institute of Technology Highlanders at Mizzou Arena at 2 p.m. Mizzou then returns to the court two days later to face the UC Riverside Highlanders on Tuesday, Dec. 21 at 7 p.m.
