
Georgia Tech Beats Mizzou, 61-46

ST THOMAS, U.S. Virgin Islands - The University of Missouri women's basketball team suffered a 61-46 loss to Georgia Tech in Mizzou's final game of the Paradise Jam in the U.S. Virgin Islands Saturday night. The loss dropped the Tigers to 2-3 on the season while Georgia Tech improved to 4-4.
Senior RaeShara Brown and junior Christine Flores led Mizzou with15 points apiece, while senior Shakara Jones scored 10. Sophomore Sydney Crafton pulled down a career high 12 rebounds.
Brown hit a three to open scoring but then went cold from the field as Georgia Tech scored the next nine points. The Yellow Jackets continued to play well and used consecutive threes from Metra Walthour to build an 11-point advantage, 18-7, with 10:41 left in the first half.
Georgia Tech remained in control for much of the half but the Tigers came roaring back with a 9-0 run to get Mizzou within one, 27-26, with 1:48 left in the first frame. Brown scored the first six points, with four coming on reverse layups, and Flores ended the run with a three-pointer. Neither team managed any more points as the Yellow Jackets entered the break with a 27-26 lead.
The second half started much like the first, with Georgia Tech gaining an eight-point advantage, 38-30, with 14:20 remaining in the contest. A free throw from freshman Paige Spietz cut Mizzou's deficit to four, 44-40, but Georgia Tech responded with an 8-0 run as the Yellow Jackets opened its biggest lead to that point, 52-40, at the 5:05 mark.
The Tigers used a three-point play from Flores to bring the score to 54-46 but Georgia Tech made its free throws down the stretch to preserve a 61-46 Yellow Jacket victory.
Mizzou next hits the court on Wednesday, Dec. 1 with a 6 p.m. contest against Ball State in Muncie, Ind. The Tigers then travel to Evanston, Ill., to face Northwestern on Sunday, Dec. 5 at 1 p.m. as part of the Big Ten/Big 12 Challenge. Missouri's game against Northwestern will be televised live on the Big Ten Network.
